Humane Mouse Trap How to Make a Humane Mouse Trap

Live Mouse Trap

A piece of an old bicycle tire and a glass fruit jar are the only materials required for making this trap.
Push one end of the tire into the hole, making sure that there is a space left at the end so that the mice can get in.
Then bend the other end down into a fruit jar or other glass jar. Bait may be placed in the jar if desired, although this is not necessary.

How to Build a Rabbit Trap

How to Make a Self-Setting Rabbit Trap

Secure a good-sized box, say, 1 ft. high, 1-1/2 ft. wide, and 3 ft. long; and to the bottom, about 10 in. from one end, fasten a 2-in. square piece, A, Fig. 1, extending the width of the box. Place a 10-in. board sloping from the end of the box to the cleat A.
Self-Setting Trap
The swing door B, Fig. 1, is made as shown in Fig. 2, which represents the back side of the door. Sheet metal or tin is cut to the proper size and tacked around the edge of the hole. This prevents the animal from gnawing its way out, also provides a way to make the hole of different sizes for squirrels or other animals. The hole in the door should be about 2 in. wide and 4 in. high for rabbits. The door is made to swing freely on two large nails driven through the sides of the box. The hole in the door being only large enough to admit a small portion of the rabbits head, the rabbit will push its way through to the bait, causing the door to swing back and up, and it will close by its own weight when the animal is inside. A small door is provided in the other end to remove the animals caught.

The advantage of this trap is that where one animal is caught others are liable to follow, and several rabbits will be trapped at a time. Then, too, the rabbits are not harmed in any way as they would be if caught in an ordinary trap.

How to Make a Paper Banger Art projects for kids

To make this harmless and loud toy – the Paper Banger, we need strong sheet of paper size 6,3 x 9,5 inches (16 x 24 cm)  (or other sheet of paper with edge ratio 2:3).

How to make paper bangers?

First fold the sheet in half along the long side to mark the middle of the sheet, and then fold the edges as shown on image A.
Again fold the paper in half, to mark the middle, and fold the edges as shown on image B and C.
Make one more fold in half (image D) and the paper banger is finished.
Grab the edge and swing as hard as you can but have in mind that there should be a slight opening between the two sides in order for air to enter and make the bang during the swing (image E).

INTRODUCTION TO GENETICS

Genetics

Introduction to Genetics:

A persons eye can be blue, brown, green, gray, or hazel; a person’s hair can be different shades of brown, red, blond, or black; a parakeet’s feathers can be green, blue, or yellow, with black or gray markings. What causes these biological spectra of colours? We can frame the question in more general terms: What is genetic basis of variation among a populations individuals? Or, what principles account for the transmission of these variations from parents to offspring?

One possible explanation of heredity is a “blending hypothesis”, the idea that genetic material contributed by two parents mixes in a manner analogous to the way blue and yellow paints blend to make green. The hypothesis predicts that mating a blue parakeet with a yellow one would result in green offspring, and once blended, the hereditary material of the two parents would be as inspirable as the colours of mixed paint. If the blended hypothesis were correct, over many generations a freely mating population of blue and yellow parakeets would give rise to a uniform population of green birds. The actual results of parakeet breeding, however, contradict such a prediction. The blending hypothesis also fails to explain other phenomenon of inheritance, such as traits skipping a generation.

An alternative to the blending model is a "particulate model" of Inheritance: the gene idea. According to this model, parents pass on discrete heritable units – genes – that retain their separate identities in offspring. An organisms collection of genes is more like a bucket of marbles than a pail of paint. Like marbles, genes can be sorted and passed along, generation after generation, in undiluted form.

The first scientific advance in the study of inheritance was made by the Austrian monk Gregor Mendelwho published a paper in 1866 which laid the foundations for the present-day science of genetics. He demonstrated that characteristics do not blend but pass from parents to offspring as discrete units. These units, which appear in the offspring in pairs, remain discrete and are passed on to subsequent generations by the male and female gametes which each contain a single unit. The Danish botanist Johannsen called these units GENES in 1990 and the American geneticist Morgan in 1912 demonstrated that they are carried on the chromosomes. Since the early 1900s the study of genetics has made great advances in explaining the nature of inheritance at both the level of the organism and at the level of gene.

Definition of Genetics:

Genetics is the study of genes, heredity, and variation in living organisms.

Jet lag What is Jet Lag – Symptoms Treatment How to Avoid Jet Lag

Jet lag is the disorientation in the normal biological circadian rhythm, which is experienced by a person traveling from one time zone to another with more than four hours difference.
The greater the time difference, the greater the degree of disorientation.

Jet lag symptoms

During the time the traveler needs for his or her body to adjust to new eating and sleeping patterns, he or she may feel disoriented, tired, and “out of sync” with the new schedule, that is, sleepy during the day, awake at night, and hungry at inconvenient hours.
The body temperature may also no longer be synchronized with day and night requirements.

How to avoid jet lag

The symptoms of jet lag are often made worse by overeating and by a high consumption of alcohol during the flight, which is known to cause dehydration.
It is, therefore, advisable to drink plenty of nonalcoholic fluids during a long flight.
Some people believe that jet lag may be completely avoided by abstaining totally from alcohol and eating as lightly as possible during the flight, preferably on the schedule of mealtimes in the destination time zone.
Additionally, a diet developed by some researches is thought by some travelers to help adjust the circadian rhythms prior to flying by altering the intake of food and caffeine for several days before travel. There is no medical evidence to support this; people are advised to check with their physician before following the diet, since it could have detrimental effects on certain health conditions, such as diabetes.

Jet Lag Treatment

The body may take a long time to adjust to a new circadian rhythm, possibly as long as 10 days.
If the stay in the new time zone is to be brief, it is often advisable not to try to adapt, but rather to retain the familiar rhythm, even at the expense of unusual hours.
On a business trip this generally means that at least some working hours fall within commercial times.
A longer stay in the new time zone requires adaptation.
A mild sedative, prescribed by a physician, may help to ensure proper sleep for a few nights after arrival. The body will adjust its eating habits to conform with the new sleeping pattern.

SIMPLE RECIPE TO THINK THROUGH CONSTRAINTS

Whenever you get into a situation of confusion, remember a journey of travel you have undertaken in the past

e.g going to coimbatore or bangalore from chennai …

  1. All that you do is to decide the destination and target date
  2. Then look for buying ticket..if class of your choice not available, you will book the next best. If train not available you will try bus, if not air..BUT NEVER DEVIATE from the goal of reaching the destination on that date.
  3. Again once ticket is booked you plan everything else, like what to take, whom to inform etc., try to reach station before the departure time. HERE IF THERE ARE ANY CONSTRAINTS ON THE WAY, OR LAPSES ON YOUR PART you will not worry and abandon the trip. You try to find a means and methods to rectify or overcome the constraints and MOVE ahead.
  4. Next on board also, in your many journeys you must have experienced lot of discomfitures, difficulties, constraints, set backs during journey like e.g no proper food, no water in compartment or unclean areas, may be cockroaches etc.. But you overlook, overcome them and KEEPING FOCUS on the GOAL and try to reach the destination..
  5. You can think of AIR travel too similarly.
  6. IT IS SUCH A SMALL AND SIMPLE PRINCIPLE ONE CAN FOLLOW IN LIFE TOO.

6 Step How to Increase Your Memory

Forget and remember are two things that most often experienced by men all her life. By considering all the important things we can certainly make things easier, otherwise if a little forget and forget again, so beware of people who go senile.

There are 6 ways you can help us increase the ability to remember. Hopefully the following therapies can help.

1. Wake up and smell the rosemary.
In a study of 2003, the psychologists asked 144 volunteers to conduct a series of trials of long-term memory, working memory means, and test the reaction and attention. Some people do the test in an odor-free room, some in the room with the smell of rosemary essential oil, and the rest worked with husband smells of lavender.
blog-apa-aja.blogspot.com
The result, those working in the room by having great results in long-term memory and working memory compared with working in a room without smells, while working in the lavender-scented room worse in terms of working memory. Furthermore, those working in the rosemary-scented room feel more awake than those who work in the control room (no smell). Well, who worked in the lavender-scented room was more to feel sleepy.

Well, apparently its good lavender to repel mosquitoes. But side effects can make us prefer to sleep.

2. Food Boost Your Memory
To keep the memories remain young despite the aging brain, researchers suggest that eating foods rich in antioxidants like blueberries, apples, bananas, dark green vegetables, onions, and carrots.

blog-apa-aja.blogspot.com
Antioxidants are molecules that bind and neutralize easily electrons are called "free radicals" that roam freely in the bloodstream. These free radicals increases with age and can kill brain.

Secondly, most of the brain is made of healthy fats, including the most important are the omega-3. So that the brain can repair itself and become neurons are connected properly, we must provide appropriate food for the brain. Well, omega-3 found in many species of fish and nuts.

3. Chewing gum
Research conducted in 2002 in England found that chewing gum providing better results in long-term memory test and short-term than those who did not chew anything.
blog-apa-aja.blogspot.com

The scientists suspect, the act of chewing gum will produce saliva, which increases heart rate, or it affects the functioning of the brain region called the hippocampus that causes the body to release insulin in preparation for the metabolism of food.

4. Brain Game
A program called Lumosity, developed with the help of neuroscientists and cognitive psychologists from Stanford University and the University of California at San Francisco, is specifically designed for parents who want to improve memory, concentration, waking, and even their mood.
blog-apa-aja.blogspot.com
Of course, theres always sports a classic brain and cheap, such as Sudoku and crossword puzzles that can be found anywhere. Exercises that will inspire knowledge and help the nerves in the brain interconnected.

5. Sleep.
In a study on lab scale using rats, while rats slept, two areas in the brain - the hippocampus and medial prefrontal cortex, an area associated with memory retrieval of the past (either in human or rat) - rotating display events throughout the day. This process is believed essential to consolidate and tidy up the files of new memories are formed.
blog-apa-aja.blogspot.com

6. Walk
Research shows that the memory center in the brain called the hippocampus shrinks with age. But research in 2011 to give good news: people grow older adults who regularly walk to maintain the volume of the hippocampus.
blog-apa-aja.blogspot.com

The study, led by Arthur Kramer of the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana that involved 60 adults aged 55 to 80 years. They did walk three times a week each for 40 minutes.

Enough activity to increase their heart rate. Other participants are the same number of muscle toning exercises weight training, yoga, and stretching, the same intensity.

After a year of tightening, the anterior hippocampus of participants lost a little over 1 percent of its volume, on average. In contrast, aerobic exercise a year makes about 2 percent increase in volume of the anterior hippocampus, reversing the natural aging hippocampus for about two years.

Scientists believe that it is caused by exercise-induced mild stress that triggers the production of growth factors in the brain. Possibly also due to greater blood flow to the brain so that more nutrients and oxygen are produced.

Great Way to Have Fun While Working on Social Skills

Abundant Harvest Conversational Board Game for Kids

Contents:

All of the contend from the game abundant harvest
Abundant Harvest Game Contents

  • 1 Playing board
  • 8 Principal reminder cards
  • 1 Die
  • 8 Principal playing pieces
  • Scenario Cards
    • Child
    • School
    • Parent
  • Harvest points
    • 5 Points (poor)
    • 10 Points (modest)
    • 20 Points (abundant)

Game Play:

I like games that are simple to play and easy to set up. This allows me to focus more on the game and having fun rather then there rules. Abundant Harvest Conversational Board Game for Kids is one of those games.

After opening up the game, sort into separate piles the scenario cards as well as the harvest points and roll the die. Move that number of space and do what you are told. There are two requirements. 1 to read and do what is on the board and 2 draw the color card and discuss using a principal from the principal cards. The main point of the game is to reach the end while turning every situation into a learning one.

The best part is that there really are no set rules. For example if you get a cared, you can talk about the principal and end it there. If you want, the game allows for the conversation to continue. When working with special needs kids with limited vocabulary, I will listen to what they have to say and guid them in the right direction. However when I play with kids who have a larger vocabulary, for the most part, I would love to hear many kinds enhancing in each situation. Everyone has a way to handle each situation and they should be voices so we can all learn from each other.

Pros:

  • Colorful yet simplistic game design
  • Lots of different situations
  • Gets kids talking about difficult situations

Cons:

  • This game is for kids. I am not sure why they included a section for parents. We did not use it but rather when a kid landed on red, I list them choose which card they wanted.

Suggestions:

  • When the child picks a game piece encourage them to pick a piece that they will have to answer all the cards with. For example if a child chooses trust, each card drawn has to be answered how a trusted person would handle this situation. It may take longer to play, but the kids will really learn each skill fluently.
  • For kids who have been playing this game a long time, have them take turns making up the situations. For example if they land on blue, let them tell a difficult situation they had in school. It is up to the other child to talk about how he would handle the situation. You are basically having a group session in which every child can learn from the other without realizing it.

Bottom Line:

Wow. Abundant Harvest Conversational Board Game for Kids is a really deep game that helps kids talk and learn about various situations. Playing the basic game is fun but ones kids really learn and see what is offered, they can take this game to a whole new level. I have not only played this game, but I have shown it to a behavior therapist who was blown away. I will be suing this both at home as well as in social settings.

What situation can you think of that can be used as a great discussion for this game?

I will start:
When a child spills a glass of milk on you during lunchtime in school. What would you do?
I would quietly get up and clean off the milk to the best of my abilities.
